According to local legend, Bridge House was built over Stock Beck in an attempt to avoid paying land tax. However, it was more probably built in the sixteenth-century by the owners of Ambleside Hall, in order to connect the hall with orchards that lay on the other side of the stream. Lilliput Lane started producing their miniature cottages in 1982. David Tate, the founder, opened workshops at Skirsgill, in England's Lake District, and the Company has remained in the area ever since. The majority of cottages are based on real cottages and this precious item is a perfect example.
